For those not familiar with its structure, the governance and working practices of the railway industry can appear to be complex and difficult to navigate.  This guide has therefore been written
to serve those officers and individuals engaged in local transport who know little about the rail industry as well as the more experienced transport professional who wishes to up-date their knowledge. Its aim is to introduce them to the main industry bodies, to encourage them to proactively engage with the industry, to offer guidance on how a local authority might take advantage of opportunities which rail offers and how to go about addressing rail related issues which may emerge in their own areas.
