Have you heard about the new Taxi Toolkit?
It could help your authority save money on the cost of buying taxi services and is a valuable source of information about the overall business of taxi management.
The toolkit has been jointly developed by the former North West Centre of Excellence and Merseytravel.
It’s online and divided into two parts. The first section covers procurement issues and includes general papers on taxi management within local authorities. In addition, there are contributions from local authorities on framework contracts and the establishment of a quality taxi partnership.
The second part of the toolkit focuses on training in the taxi industry and includes a number of papers and a presentation which looks at the training requirements for taxi drivers. Merseytravel has provided an overview of the Merseyside-wide Taxi Driver Training Programme and the results of the programme.

The background to the toolkit
Between 2005 and 2008 the North West Centre of Excellence - a predecessor of the NWIEP - had a national lead role for identifying and establishing efficient working practices in the area of local road passenger transport. The taxi toolkit is one of a number of projects that examine the ways in which public sector organisations plan, process and operate passenger transport so that they are more efficient and promote accessibility and social inclusion. |
